Reading Tutoring

At Reading Bridge, I use the Wilson Reading Program approach to make reading click. This structured, evidence-based program breaks skills into clear steps, giving kids the tools they need without feeling overwhelmed. Lessons break down the phonetic code, while integrating fluency, and comprehension at a pace that feels right for them. With individualized instruction, progress is achievable and confidence grows naturally. My goal: help children learn to read—and enjoy it—so they’re set up for lasting success in school and beyond.

Spelling & Writing Support

Spelling and writing are intimately linked to reading. In our sessions reading instruction is integrated with spelling and written expression and lessons are taught based on sound principles of learning. My approach helps them feel proud of their work while improving clarity and confidence in both school assignments and everyday writing.

Creative & Play-Based Learning

These kids are visual and like movement! Through art, games, and playful activities, kids practice reading and writing without it feeling like extra homework. This approach turns practice into something they look forward to—building skills naturally while keeping joy at the center of learning.

Kinesthetic Learning

Some kids learn best by doing. I use movement and hands-on activities to reinforce what we are learning, keeping kids engaged and helping concepts truly sink in.

Confidence & Self-advocacy

I help kids and parents see that dyslexia is nothing to hide.  They are a different kind of learner and we practice how to ask teachers for the support they need. We also dive into their gifts and strengths and how they can use these to build confidence in themselves.

Parent Advocacy & Support

You do not have to navigate the school system alone. We guide parents through IEP meetings and share resources to help you confidently advocate for your child’s education.

Our Onboarding Process

Start with a Chat

We'll discuss your child’s reading goals and assess their current skills.

Set Up a Plan

Together, we’ll create a customized learning plan that suits their needs.

Begin Sessions

Your child will start their personalized tutoring sessions with guidance.

Track Progress

We’ll frequently check in to monitor their growth and adjust as needed.

1
Parent Consultation

I begin with a phone call to hear your concerns, discuss teacher feedback, clarify your goals, and go over logistics. I also share how my creative, art-based approach makes learning fun while building on your child’s strengths.

2
Student Assessment

Next, I conduct an assessment to see where your child is with reading. We look at letter sounds, word recognition with both real and nonsense words, and spelling. This helps me understand exactly what they need and where to start.

3
Ongoing Instruction

From there, we meet twice a week at my Reading Bridge office in downtown Carbondale. I primarily use the Wilson Reading Program, and other interventions based upon your child’s individual needs.  In support of this, art and kinesthetic learning are included to build skills step by step, starting with letters and sounds. Each session is billed individually.
